1. Purpose of this policy
This Cookie Policy explains how LIPTECH CC, trading as AstechLMS (“we”, “us”, “our”), uses cookies and similar technologies on https://www.astechlms.com/ (the “Website”). It sits alongside our Privacy Policy and forms part of it.
Cookie data can constitute personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”) where it identifies you or can be linked to you. We handle it on the same basis set out in our Privacy Policy.
2. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website you visit. It lets the site recognise your device on a return visit and remember certain preferences.
Think of a cookie as a cloakroom ticket. The ticket carries no personal detail on its own — it simply lets the cloakroom match you to what you left behind. Cookies work the same way: most hold a random identifier that means nothing outside the context of the site that issued it.
Cookies fall into two groups by origin:
- First-party cookies are set by the website you are visiting — in this case, astechlms.com
- Third-party cookies are set by a different domain, such as Google, whose services run on our pages
They also differ by lifespan:
- Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser
- Persistent cookies remain on your device until they expire or you clear them
Alongside cookies, the Website may use local storage, pixels and JavaScript tags. These serve similar purposes and are covered by this policy.
3. Cookie categories we use
3.1 Strictly necessary cookies
These keep the Website functioning and secure. Without them, pages and forms cannot operate correctly. They are set on the basis of our legitimate interest under section 11(1)(f) of POPIA and do not require consent.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_GRECAPTCHA | Google (reCAPTCHA) | Risk analysis to distinguish human visitors from bots on contact forms | Approx. 6 months |
rc::a, rc::b, rc::c | Google (reCAPTCHA) | Bot detection and form protection | Session / persistent |
PHPSESSID | astechlms.com | Maintains the visitor session across pages | Session |
astechlms_cookie_consent | astechlms.com | Records your cookie preferences so the banner does not reappear on every visit | 12 months |
| Security and load-balancing cookies | Hosting provider | Protects against malicious traffic and routes requests correctly | Session |
3.2 Analytics and performance cookies
These tell us how visitors find and use the Website — which pages hold attention, where visitors leave, and which content leads to enquiries. The data is aggregated and used to improve the site. These cookies are set only where you consent through our cookie banner.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes unique visitors by assigning a randomly generated identifier | 2 years |
_ga_<container-id> | Google Analytics | Maintains session state for GA4 properties | 2 years |
_gid | Google Analytics | Distinguishes visitors (where legacy tracking is present) | 24 hours |
_gat / _gat_gtag_<id> | Google Analytics | Throttles the request rate to Google’s servers | 1 minute |
Google Analytics is configured with IP anonymisation where the platform supports it, which means the final octet of your IP address is removed before storage. Google’s handling of this data is governed by https://policies.google.com/privacy.
3.3 Functional cookies
These remember choices you make — such as a preferred language or a dismissed notification — so the Website behaves consistently. They are set on consent where they are not strictly necessary.
3.4 Advertising and remarketing cookies
We do not currently run advertising or remarketing on the Website, and no advertising cookies are active.
We may introduce remarketing through Google Ads or similar platforms in future, to show relevant AstechLMS content to visitors who have previously shown interest. Should that happen:
- This policy will be updated before any advertising tag goes live
- Advertising cookies will be set only where you have given consent through the cookie banner
- You will retain the ability to withdraw consent at any time
Cookies likely to appear at that point include:
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_gcl_au | Attributes conversions to advertising clicks | 90 days | |
IDE | Google (doubleclick.net) | Measures ad performance and serves relevant ads | 13 months |
test_cookie | Google (doubleclick.net) | Checks whether the browser supports cookies | 15 minutes |
We do not display third-party advertising on the Website itself, and we do not sell your data to advertisers.
4. Your consent
On your first visit, a cookie banner appears. You may:
- Accept all — allows analytics and functional cookies, plus any advertising cookies we introduce later
- Reject non-essential — allows only strictly necessary cookies
- Manage preferences — select categories individually
Strictly necessary cookies are set regardless of your choice, as the Website cannot function without them.
Your preference is stored for 12 months. To change it before then, clear the consent cookie in your browser or use the cookie settings link in the Website footer.
5. Managing cookies through your browser
Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies. Blocking all cookies may affect Website functionality — forms may fail to submit, and reCAPTCHA verification may not complete.

6. Do Not Track
Some browsers transmit a “Do Not Track” signal. No common standard governs how websites should respond, and the Website does not currently alter its behaviour in response to that signal. Our cookie banner gives you direct control over non-essential cookies, which offers a clearer outcome.
7. Google reCAPTCHA
Our contact forms are protected by Google reCAPTCHA. This service analyses technical and behavioural signals — including IP address, device and browser characteristics, and interaction patterns — to confirm that a submission comes from a person rather than an automated script. Signals are transmitted to Google for analysis.
Use of reCAPTCHA is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy) and Terms of Service (https://policies.google.com/terms). We rely on reCAPTCHA to protect our infrastructure and the personal information held within it against abuse — a legitimate interest under section 11(1)(f) of POPIA.
8. Cross-border processing
Google processes cookie data on servers located outside South Africa. Transfers of this kind are permitted under section 72 of POPIA where the recipient is bound by rules providing protection substantially similar to POPIA, or where you have consented. Our Privacy Policy covers this in full at section 10.
9. Cookies on linked sites
Links from the Website lead to external destinations, including https://www.as-tech.co.za, Sage resources and partner pages. Cookies set by those sites fall outside our control. Review their cookie policies before proceeding.
10. Updates to this policy
This policy is reviewed as our technology and marketing activity change. The current version is always published at https://www.astechlms.com/cookie-policy with the effective date shown at the top. Material changes — the introduction of remarketing in particular — will be signalled through a Website notice and a refreshed consent prompt.
